Without the work of Vincent Wildlife Trust,
the pine marten would still be in signi昀椀cant
trouble across Britain.

How did VWT make an impact?
VWT has implemented research-driven projects to restore and protect pine marten populations using both
targeted translocations and working with communities to support natural recolonisation.
Between 2014 and 2017, VWT carried out a major translocation project moving 51 pine martens from healthy
Scottish populations to restore remnant populations in mid-Wales. Populations were subsequently monitored
post-release using GPS collars and camera traps. The martens adapted well, showing good survival, breeding
success and dispersal across Wales. Pine martens are now present in 21 of the 22 counties, with a range
estimate of 13,000km2.
VWT has shared its experience and best practice, collaborating with Forestry England, Gloucestershire Wildlife
Trust and Devon Wildlife Trust among others. To date, VWT has been instrumental in translocating more than
100 pine martens to Wales and England.
