Other work to support our Ten-Year Strategy

Speakers and guests joined VWT on 6 November
2025 at the Royal Society to celebrate 50 years
of making an impact for threatened mammals in
Britain, Ireland and mainland Europe with the launch
of VWT’s 50 Year Impact Report and accompanying
video with Simon King as guest speaker. The event
was not only to celebrate the past 50 years but
also — importantly — to look forward to how we can
make even more impact in the future and working in
partnership with funders, conservation organisations,
decision makers, land managers, local communities
and volunteers.
New website users
During 2025, VWT launched redesigns of both its UK and Ireland
websites. We posted 11 blogs written by staff, Trustees and
volunteers across the websites.

Website (Martens on the Move) — 1.6K new users

Our impact on social media continued to increase
during 2025, with overall users across all 昀椀ve
platforms. We stopped using X (8K followers in 2024)
and set up BlueSky in January 2025.

Award
VWT’s Principal Scientist, Jenny MacPherson,
was the recipient of the 2025 Mammal Society
Medal, given annually to an individual ‘whose
contributions have signi昀椀cantly advanced the
昀椀eld of mammal conservation’. A number of
her achievements were highlighted in support
of the nomination, including the impactful work
managing the Pine Marten Recovery Project for
England and Wales and the reinforcement of pine
martens in Wales.
VWT took part in 17 interviews on a range of TV and
Radio programmes, including.
• Bat Conservation Trust Bat chat
• BBC Landward shown across three nights
• Iolo Williams interview for his Rivers series
• Several radio interviews on the Irish Stoat

Hay Festival
event

As part of VWT’s 50th year celebrations, the CEO and
Principal Scientist were interviewed at a well-attended event
at the Hay Festival. As part of the festival programme, VWT
staff also led a guided walk to explore the nocturnal wildlife
along the river Wye, which included several bat species.
Haven
launches
During 2025, we continued work with four national partners to develop
Martens on the Move Pine Marten Havens with interpretation trails and boards
across Britain — at Wentwood with Coed Cadw (Woodland Trust in Wales)
and Natural Resources Wales; Wallngton with National Trust, England; and
Kirroughtree with Forestry and Land Scotland. These were launched with
events at each haven during the summer.
